Hmmm get to the point quicker and make it would have been better if your saw her get taken and have more powerful reactions
On a scale 0-10, where would you place it?
I would place it as a 6
Leave personal/extra comments:
Additional comments I would say it was a nice idea but it wasn't straight to the point quick enough. The opening to the film is really good, the animation works well and the music is perfect timing for each scene. the only thing is the beginning scene is a little bit confusing.

Looking back at Voki:
This is Andrea age 15, she has similar interest and hobbies as my Voki, my Voki represents her so well as they both enjoy the same thing.

This is also Naheem, age 18, he has similar interest and hobbies as my Voki does, my Voki is a cartoon version of Vic.

Naheem and Andre match my Voki, because they are within the age range  in their spear time they enjoy going to the cinema and would prefer a thriller movie, to most other movie genre, simply because of the adrenaline rush they get from it that ,most other genre wouldn't be able to provide genre such as comedy.

LOOKING BACK at preliminary task.
The preliminary task was to film a two way conversation using the 180 degree rule.
doing that it has taught me about the different types of shots, angle shots. we focused more on the 180 degree rule which helped a lot when filming the opening because I had full understanding of what the 180 degree rule was and know not to break it and the impact  it could have on  a film.
Editing my preliminary wasn't as much work as editing my opening film. but having  the experience,I was able to fall back on it  different rules.

Characters profile.

Aaliyah smith

Age- 17

Aaliyah is a 17 years old shes ordinary mainstream female. She’s in her second year of college. She prefers to keep herself to herself as she doesn't like to social with a lot of people. She’s a much closed person also very hard to read as she’s a complex character. Hero in thrillers are often portrayed to be an outsider, isolated, secretive but moral. all this attributes are what we wants this Aliyah character to be.

Evaluation task- Equipment

For our opening sequence, we used a Canon digital DSLR camera which belongs to my partner to film with regular lens, with a regular size tripod that belong to the media department and a dolly to film and Adobe premiere pro for the editing. I have had access to video cameras before the course and applied some of the skills I've gathered and to shoot the opening sequence. However I dint have enough understanding to the diffrent shot types but during the lesson, I gained full understanding and applied it to the Film opening; from the diffrent camera shot, mise-un-scene,sound and editing. Me and partner played around with diffrent camera shots, this way we identity what shot was best for which.
Using the Canon DSLR was totally new to both of us, seeing that we've never used it before to film(the camera type), we had several difficulties, the attempt to get some scene out of focus to make it look interesting and .......... was a fail, we had previously done some scene and found out that we had to redo them because most of the scene that were meant to be in focus were out of focus due to our lack of understanding of the camera tools. Redoing it, we had help from our media teacher, who then taught us how to use the 'automatic focus',which we quickly applied and got on with film, apart from that, also the microphone from the camera picked up a lot of ruffling which was sorted with the editing machine (adobe premiere pro), the lighting was very poor so we had to improvise and used natural lighting by opening the windows and Turing on the lights and also making sure that were shooting at daylight this manage to improve the lighting not so much but it was better, every other things was okay plus the picture we got were very good quality.

We used the tripod to help hold the camera in other to get good still shots, we got variety shots from adjusting the tripod height and angle. we also used the dolly track to help us get a smooth tracking/zoom shot. This was used when we zoomed into the the computer, it was better this was rather than using the zoom in tool in the camera the quality wouldn't have been as good as it would be using the dolly. The devices was used with the tripod strapped to the dolly so the camera remains supported with the tripod, also for getting the diffrent angle shot and heights to help achieve the diffrent shots.
we used(Adobe premiere pro)editing software on a dell computer to edit our work, I had little understanding of how to edit, however I wasn't entirely confident with software machine, not only did we seek help from teachers and assistance, we also messed about with it to try and get the feel, and learnt the diffrent tools before finally editing our opening. the software allows you to import movie files from the computer however they type of files it allows very, some files you'll need to covert before importing i, this was not the case for us, we were able to import staring from media file, it then has a software where you can drag your chosen clip and trim, cut change duration and add effects the same process applies to adding  sound.

Evaluation task 3

Paramount picture is an American film distributions company, founded in 1912 by Adolph Zukor.
Why: Based on my research, Paramount are well known to distribute thriller films such as shutter Island, and The talented MR Riley, with the association to thriller and experience, it would be appropriated to chose them to distribute it, as they're well known for it and it will reach the target audience and also might have a chance of it making it to the cinema. Paramount is such a huge and successful distributor that's been around for many year and is known worldwide, so really there will be nothing to lose, seeing that they made all four Paranormal activities very successful with their distribution power. with a big name distributor labeled to out film, will eventually attract more a wider audience.

Evaluation task- Textual analysis

Textual analysis

The film opens with a mid-shot of a a teenage girl going up the stairs,  its a still shot so we can see her journey up the stairs, a synchronous sound to go with it, giving a suspense and mystery feel to the unknown character.  From this shot we could tell that shes in her house also her costume  suggests that too. Shes dressed in black top and black tights, her outfits gives away that shes at her house and therefore they will be no need for the fancy dressing, likewise would her outfit also suggest that she's a bit depressed as you would associate the color black to depression and death.

Camera then cuts to an over shoulder of her looking at a USB stick and an 'AS math book ' this give away to the audience that shes a math student, showing the representation of modern females now in the society been educated also shows age representation. young girls going to school. Indicates that shes still in her teens.
Then it cuts the slightly moving title, 'Unexpected' giving away the a little plot about the movie that there more to either the Maths book or the USB stick.
Mid-shot/ two shot, we can tell that is the next day as the surrounding looks like a class environment she is studying with a fellow class mate, the change of costume also gives it away.

The camera angle changes together with a close up, so its more focus on your main character in other for the audience to have clear view of what she doing, she pulls out the same USB stick we earlier saw her with, this is now clear to the audience that the mystery lies within the USB stick, we get a more suspense building, dramatic music for a bit then changes to heart beat pulse to indicate how the character might be feeling, now that we know that shes about to see the whats in the USB.
We then have tracking shot of the character zooming into picture a representation of a traditional female, been nosy and wanting to know all, also it represents a young teenager eager to know things and explore.

The pictures looks to be taken by a stalker, the camera angles suggest that  shes been stalked and the video to aware the viewers that shes been captured nut we don't know why, The music pace relax  a little to break the suspense and shows her concentration, it stops at a over the shoulder shot of her looking at the picture as this point we also become the character and see everything shes see and feels everything that she might be feeling.
Camera zooms into the the computer screen, an extreme close up so then we move from relating with the main character to the the girl in the picture, we sympathies with her as we the scene of an extreme close up of her eyes starring directly at us, the audience and then fades away with a very dramatic, fast pace music.

Final screening

Story line(changed)

A teenage girl went up to her attic in search of her math book and then comes across a USB stick, she decides to take it it school with her the next day. The second day shes at school, showing dedication, but really was disturbed by what could be on the USB. She couldn't wait any longer so she takes it out of her bag, and whet to the nearest computer, leaving her unaware study partner on her own, she checks it out and find several disturbing pictures with a video.

Thursday 7 March 2013

Initial screening

Out of 60 marks, I reckon am Just about on 30 marks. this is because I have variety shots, although my shot types are not up to standard, However, considering that theres more to be done, I reckon half a mark will be appropriate, seeing that my editing was good. I could aswell improve on the timing aswell as having an easier storyline to stick to. Also I have the sound/music missing due to lack of time management, that aswell are part of the things I need to improve on, seeing that I dint have the time to include it in my initial screening. I may also need to include more shots for the final screening.

Thriller openings

Institutions

Institutions When researching for psychological thrillers we have concluded that Paramount are most commonly the film instituition connected with pyschological thrillers. We think it would be appropriate to use this instiution at the beginning of our opening as our audience can identify that we are a psychological thriller film. Paramount have distributed a lot of well established films like "Shutter Island", "The Talented Mr Ripley", "Paranormal Activity 1,2,3,4 and 5."

Camera movement inspiration

I love the camera movement in this video and would love to imitate it to out video.

Costume research

we got out costume idea from 'The possession.'

Friday 8 February 2013

Costume

The costume that the character will be wearing is very basic wear, clothes you'd normally wear at in your house as she’ll be at home. We have chosen some navy blue skinny jeans, its very casual with some black ankle socks and the top half we have chosen a plain black jumper. We had got this idea from the film possession. she will also be wearing her hair back and free off make up, were trying to create the effect of begin casual at your home.

Phychological thriller

Psychological thrillers:
It’s a popular sub-genre of thrillers with heavy focus on characters.  Thrillers ties in elements of mystery and drama genre. Physiological thrillers contain elements of horror genre,

In a psychological film plot, the characters are no longer reliant on physical strength to over their enemies but are reliant oh their mental resources by battling for the opposite force in the characters own mind.

The suspense created by psychological thrillers often comes from two or more characters preying one another’s mind.

Theme:
Psychological thrillers tend to follow certain themes which is the main point of the story.
  • Death
  • Reality
  • Identity
  • Existence
  • Purpose

Convection of a psychological thriller:
Convection of physiological thriller will include things like:
  • Low level lighting: this creates shadows, creating tension and fear
  • Quick edits and changes in camera angle: creates adrenaline rush, increasing fear and shock.
  • Music: high volume screech, slow eerie and silence, this hold the audience breath as they don’t now what to expect.
  • Flashback: to confuse the audience or showing the past to give and insight into why characters are the way they are.
  • Black and white colouring: increases the effect of shadow
  • Font/ colour of title:  titles are mostly written against a black background to emphasize the theme of the film but this doesn’t apply to all thrillers.

Film titles

Most of them are against a dark background, with bright text, whilst the ones against a bright/clear background  is written in dark text.
The fonts don't really have anything to it, each letter are separated and are written in a letter type of font, their formal.
Each title match the the film concept/images , i.e 'Vacancy' is written up on an hotel billboard, we would normally associate hotel with the word 'vacancy', and 'Memento', is with a picture, associating with  pictures and the memories we get from looking at them.

Script information

Our film opening does only has one dialogue, here by we don't see nay reason why we should include a script for out film opening, however because they will be a of description scrips. We are going to focus more on sounds such as non-diegetic music and synchronous sounds instead as we feel this will be much more effective as no speech is needed for our opening.

She gets a phone call, the sound of the call brings her back to her self after, she exits the room to, as soon as she exits the room, the box shuts its self.

Things you'd find in an attic

We don't have an attic available for out film,so were transforming a room into an attic. in order to transform, we need to know the different items that an attic might contain.

How we got out title- using Social network

We wanted the public to vote on what they think is the best title for out psychological thriller film. we wanted to target a large audience so we decide to use Facebook and Twitter, a popular social network and posted a link to out blog+an explanation of what we wanted them to do.

Why Do People Watch Psychological Thrillers?

Why Do People Watch Psychological Thrillers?

People watch psychological thrillers for different reasons. After psychological research, researchers found a strong link between the desire to watch suspenseful and scary films or entertainment, and the viewers need for physical arousal and excitement.

Meaning we like to watch these movies for the thrill of it. 'People like to be scared, when they feel safe' - Alfred Hitchcock This is the idea that we enjoy watching it, as we are not the ones living it.

Some people may watch it to revisit a trauma when younger, instead of having to actually re-live it. Or others may choose to watch to to help express/release their own aggressive and violent thoughts.

Researchers at Kings College in London Found that the key to having a successful scary movie it to have the balance between the horror/suspense and gore, an example of this would be jaws.
